Each bar pair represents one producing county. Left bar = start year, right bar = end year.

Notes

Bar height is square-root scaled (bar area proportional to value). Scroll to zoom, drag to pan. Hover a county to see exact values. For production, the tooltip shows the state total and this county’s share of it — counties with suppressed data ((D), (S), (NA), (Z)) are treated as zero, so shares may not sum to 100%. Cotton production is measured in 480-lb bales; rice production is measured in CWT (hundredweight). No data is present for Alaska and Hawaii.

Data Sources

Production and yield data are drawn from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Quick Stats database, county-level records for major staple crops, 1997–2023. Wheat totals combine winter, spring, and durum subtypes within each county-year (production summed, yield taken as the maximum across classes).
