Bar height is logarithmically saled. Scroll to zoom, drag to pan. Hover a county to see exact values. Gas is measured in MCF (thousands of cubic feet). No data is present for Alaska and Hawaii.
Production values for 2000–2011 are drawn from the excellent USDA ERS county-level dataset, which covers onshore production in the lower 48 states. Values for 1970–1999 and 2012–2020 are spatially aggregated from the USGS well-history dataset and match approximately 95–99% of EIA-reported national totals, and are slightly imperfect but seem to largely agree with other sources on the topic. UGS's data from before 1970 was excluded due to being sparse and unreliable.
